Bed Turnover Rate Calculation
Calculate the bed turnover rate based on the number of discharged patients and the number of beds. Formula, interpretation, and scientific basis.
Bed turnover rate
3,17hasta/yatak
Indicates how many patients used a bed during the period; a high value indicates intense bed usage.

Scientific and theoretical basis
Bed turnover rate, is a measure of capacity efficiency that shows the average number of patients using a bed during a specific period.
Formula and Logic
Bed Turnover Rate = Number of Discharged Patients / Number of Beds
The number of patients discharged during the period is divided by the total number of beds. The result gives the number of patients per bed.
How to Interpret?
A high turnover rate indicates that the beds are being used intensively and that patient flow is rapid. However, it should be interpreted alongside bed occupancy rate and average length of stay: a short length of stay increases turnover rate, while long stays decrease it.
Considerations
An excessively high turnover rate can put pressure on bed cleaning and preparation processes and requires attention in terms of infection control.
